Bathroom Basins

Several of our friends are in the process of redoing their bathrooms. We all built our houses at around the same time so it seems that we are updating at the same time also. We are not planning any remodeling at this time. Last year we took out the wall paper that had been in the bathroom since we moved in and painted the walls a neutral color. I like this because I can make the bathroom look different by switching out the color of the towels and rugs. Our vanity and sink are in good shape. We put a new coat of varnish on the vanity and decided that we did not need to do anything else for a few years.

Our friends that live in the house next to us did a complete remodel job in their bathroom. They have new light fixtures; they put in a new tub surround and also put in a new tile floor. They took out their vanity and she wants to replace it with the new bathroom basins called vessel bowls. She saw these bathroom basins at several open houses and she loves the way they look. Her husband does not like the idea because he feels they will go out of style quickly and then they will have to replace it again. I have seen a few of the vessel bowls and I have to agree with him. I think they are a trend that will pass through quickly.

Our other friends have decided to redo their bathroom because they have twin daughters that are thirteen years old. The girls are constantly fighting over time in the bathroom. They removed the bath tub and put in a walk in shower. This gave them room to put in a vanity with double bathroom basins. This will give the girls more space for getting ready. Besides the extra bathroom basins the double vanity provides additional storage space for all the items that teenage girls need. They still have a bathtub in the master bath so the girls can take a bubble bath when they choose to. The walk in shower is glass, so the cleaning will be easy. I told our friend to get a squeegee to have in the shower and to get the girls in the habit of using it on the glass each time they are done with a shower. We do this with ours and it greatly reduces the chemical cleaners we have to use in it.

We laughed that we could do our own open houses to show off our new bathrooms. It is amazing how much new bathroom basins, tile and paint can change the look of a room. It is also amazing how much time it takes to redo the smallest room of the house.
