Every person
I know has a bathroom scale in their house. I think this may be a bad idea because the bathroom is one room that you are sure to use everyday
and if there is a bathroom scale in it, you may feel tempted to weigh yourself every single day. Your weight fluctuates every day and hopping
on a bathroom scale may disappoint you more often than not. I think it may be a good idea for all of us to go throw away those bathroom scales
right now.
Having a bathroom scale may not be a completely bad idea
although I think it breeds more disappointment than anything else. Many people have a complex about their weight and always feel as if their’s
is too high. If you find yourself weighing yourself every day and being disappointed by the results, it may be time for you to get rid of your
bathroom scale for good.
Being too obsessed about your weight can be harmful in many
different ways. There is a wide variety of mental and emotional effects that weight and body image can have on a person. Society and media can
put a lot of pressure on us to be perfect. Even though we realize that these expectations are unrealistic and usually impossible, we still
subject ourselves to the criticisms of ourselves and others when it comes to our bodies.
Instead of hopping on your bathroom scale every day to check
your weight, you should keep in mind that the number is not that important. People are getting taller and bigger because of evolution. If you
look back a hundred years to the average size of a woman, you would look like an Amazon in comparison. You should try to keep in mind that
your health and level of fitness is much more important than anything your bathroom scale has to say.
If you weigh 140 pounds or more but you are toned, strong, and
healthy, the number shouldn't matter at all. I know a lot of women wish that they weighed the same as emaciated models even though they
realize that being underweight is just as unhealthy as being overweight. If you find yourself being obsessed about your weight and checking
the number more often than once a week, it's time to get rid of the bathroom scale.
I mentioned the effects of our physical evolution but had not yet talked about
our mental evolution. I think that an important part of our mental evolution should be healthy and realistic expectations for us and our
children. It is important that we do not pass on our obsession with being skinny and perfect to future generations. Our main goal must be
the health and happiness of our children and weeding out ideals that are practically impossible to obtain will help ensure the
psychological well-being of those who are to come.
However if you must weigh yourself and you can’t throw away the
bathroom scale then let’s do it right then. First you should use the bathroom scale only once a
day and at the same time of day every time. Best time to weigh yourself is the morning before
your shower. Then you will need to write the number down some where that you can keep
safe.
Next after say 14 days you need to average the number. Just add up all the numbers
then divide by the days. So that’s all the number together then divide by 14. That will give you your 14 day average. Then you need to do
that every 7 days. After a month or two you will have a more realistic number. You see you can change in weight as much as five ponds a day so don’t get hooked up on it.
If we are going to use our bathroom scale then we should use it
properly. And one more thing most cheap bathroom scales can be off as much as 10
ponds! So get a good one if you must. Your health is
more important than your weight and muscle ways more than fat. Let’s be smart when it comes to
weight and bathroom scales. The best Bathroom scales are ones that are very
accurate. You should get ones at fitness stores or sporting good stores not Wal-Mart or
Target. Costco sometimes has good ones.
The best bathroom scale usually is the ones with counter weights like at the doctor’s office. These are expensive but correct. You can get a home model at
most sports stores. I have one and love it. I got
my bathroom scale at Costco for 75 dollars. Expensive but at least I know the weight is
correct. If you don’t throw away the scale then get a good one and use the tips above to make
sure your bathroom scale works for you not against you.
