Installing Ceramic Bathroom Window Tile

Many who focus on revamping the bathroom will consider adding tile to the floor, and even the walls. This decorative tile will allow the home owner to completely change the appearance of a room. One of the current fads when it comes to bathroom remodeling includes adding ceramic bathroom tile in the windows in the room. This may sound as if it would be a complicated endeavor, but if you know the basics of laying tile, you can easily add ceramic bathroom window tile to the room. Here, you will learn the basic steps on how to install bathroom window tile.

The Basic Tools

In order to install ceramic bathroom window tile, you will need a few basic tools to get the job done. The following outlines the items that you will need to gather:

• Tile Cutter

• Jig for Tile Cutting

• Spreader for Grout

• Tile Saw

• Adhesive Spreader

• Level

• Nibblers for Tile

You should also select the ceramic tile that you are electing to use. You can purchase tile for your bathroom window in many different colors, patterns, and styles. It is important to consider the colors and the basic theme of your bathroom before making your purchase. This will ensure that you make the best choice. In addition to this, you should carefully consider how much your budget will allow you to spend on the endeavor.

Preparation

Prior to setting the tiles in the bathroom window, it is important that you thoroughly clean the area. You should clean the actual window, as well as the area around the window where the tile will be placed. Once the area if cleaned thoroughly, you should allow it to dry completely. Once this is done, you should gather a few tiles and lay them out on the base of the bathroom window. This will help you to determine how many ceramic tiles that you will need, and if any of the tiles need to be cut down for size. Remember, if you must use tiles that have been cut, place them closest to the window itself. This way, the uncut tiles are visibly seen from the room angle.

Steps

The following represents the steps that are necessary to install ceramic bathroom window tile. While not all steps will be required in all situations, it is important to stay as close as possible to the steps that are contained here. This will help to ensure that your job is easy and takes as little time as possible.

1. The first thing that you need to do is to spread the adhesive that will be used to hold your ceramic tiles in place on the area surrounding the window. Once you have spread the adhesive, it is important to take your spreader and ensure that it is used to make the adhesive as smooth as possible. Uneven adhesive can result in uneven tiles, so, this is a very important step.

2. Next, you will want to start laying the ceramic tile. Now, this is a bit tricky. It is important to make certain that you do not lay the ceramic bathroom window tile right next to each other – side touching side. You must use something that will create a gap between each piece. If you fail to do this, you will not be able to place the grout appropriately.

3. Once all the tiles are in place, you should allow them to sit for a couple of hours. This will ensure that the pieces are secure before moving on to the next step.

4. It is now time to lay the grout. Seeing that the tiles are in the bathroom, you must ensure that you use waterproof grout. You can choose from different colored grout to match the tile that you use, or you can go with the basic gray or brown grout. Simply spread the grout over the top of the ceramic bathroom window tile and spread it out over the tiles. This allows the grout to settle in all those little cracks and crevices.

5. Once this has been done, you should wipe away the excess grout and then polish the ceramic bathroom window tile to give it a clean, fresh, and professional appearance.

6. If you find that some tiles appear to be loose, you should redo the grout in that area. However, if you select high quality adhesive, then this should not be an issue at all.
